In early 2002, it came to our awareness that there were many ethnic minority groups residing in our community, from different countries like India, Pakistan and Nepal. God’s love for the sojourners and our “seeing” drove us to start the ethnic minority ministry, serving the unreached. Through different ministries, which help bridge the cultural gaps and establish relationships with them, we put our faith in action and share the love of Christ with them. Apart from organizing different classes, like Chinese classes and interest groups, we also held festive activities to build social harmony, meeting their needs in various ways.
Scope of Our Service
We are currently serving ethnic minorities from Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Philippines and Indonesia. Our programs include : - Children Programs: Apart from the twice a week tuition and regular Chinese classes designated for children, there are interest classes, such as dessert and handicraft classes during the summer holiday. Through the programs, we hope to enhance children's motivation and confidence in learning and to facilitate the integration of ethnic minorities into the broader community.
- Youth Programs: Since 2011, music has become our ministry focus for the teens. Members of this big family come from different countries like India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka etc. Having an Indian Christian music teacher, who is teaching them with much patience and kindness, has greatly enhanced the effectiveness of this music-based student ministry. Apart from regular music practices, the teenagers have also developed their musical talents through performing in gigs. Occasionally, they performed with the Indian teacher who has blended the ethnic and western music in amazing ways.
- Family Programs: We reach out to families through various programs, including regular Chinese Class, festive celebrations and outdoor activities. Programs are designed to help ethnic minorities adapt to the new environment, feel home in Hong Kong, as well as to love one another.
- Cross-Cultural and Integration Programs: These programs are designed, so that people from different racial background, including ethnic minorities and new arrivals, may have opportunities to understand the cultural differences, to get acquainted and build mutual respect with each other.
